Nigeria’s representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Bayelsa United on Saturday intensified preparation ahead of the first leg, second preliminary round fixture against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia with goalless draw against two time African Champions, Enyimba International of Aba at the Samson Siasia, Stadium Yenagoa.

The Peoples Elephant who were drawn bye in the preliminary round will face Diambars FC on the 15th October, 2021.

Their Senegalese opponents eliminated Guinean side Wakirya FC by three goals to nothing while Bayelsa United spanked another Guinean side, AS Ashanti Golden Boys 4-2 to secure passage.

Forward Robert Mizo made a return to the squad after missing the Ashanti Golden Boys tie last month due to injury in the absence of Victory Beniangba and Emo James who is on national assignment with the under 23 squad.

Midfelder Favour Martins had a two to one opportunity to beat Enyimba back line on 29 minutes but was blocked by Nabil Yarou.

Few minutes later Sadiq Abubakar tested Bayelsa United goalkeeper John Shaibu but his effort went wide.

Victor Mbaoma and Fatai Abdullahi twice hit the woodwork after a clumsy error from the hosts as man of the moment Okardi Inikurogha responded immediately from Zikala Tobin’s cross with the ball flicked away by Olorunleke Ojo.

However, Substitute Bina Tombiri who came in for Edwin Ayiba deflected a shot that could have been the highlight of the encounter but that was saved by Enyimba shot stopper.

After a cagey first half, the second resumed with some glimpse of attack mindedness and determination from the both side following the introduction of Ebitimi Agogu, Philip Bob and Wisdom Magbisa in midfield.

Just before the final whistle Hassan Oladimeji’s free-kick from close range was saved by Olorunleke OJo.

After the encounter Enyimba International technical Adviser, Findi George commended his side for their determination in the game, adding that there are positives from the friendly describing Bayelsa United team as a solid side.

Bayelsa United technical Adviser Diepreye Teibowei remarked that he was pleased with the performance of his lads against an experienced Enyimba team, pointing out that he expects improved outing in key areas before the Sfaxien tie.

He noted that duo of Emo James and Victory Beniangba would be available against CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup.
