An Internationally renowned Bayelsa State born power lifter, Erepadei Sunday Amos Tubolayefa is seeking Bayelsa State government partnership to set up power lifting academy to train building lifters in Niger Delta.
Erepadei Amos Sunday who is popularly known as Sunny Power recently met Niger Delta ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemukpolo alias Tompolo who endorsed his initiative to set up Sunny Power Sport Academy and Sunny Power Athletic barbell in the Niger Delta with emphasis on Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
Tompolo pledged to support the initiative, adding such efforts by Erepadei Amos need the support of all well meaning Ijaw leaders who want Youths to be engaged in sporting activities to curb youth restiveness in the Niger delta.
Those who were part of the visit to Tompolo’s Palace were the member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 4 in the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, Chief McDonald Igbadiowei, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Mr. Tarila Thompson, Mr. George Edigbe amongst others.
The International power lifter told our correspondent that he started his power lifting career in 2003 in Bayelsa sports council and became a professional power lifter in 2008. He was world champion in the 82.5kg power lifting push-pull category and a 3 times champion of battle of the boarder.
He further revealed that he has won 25 medals both locally and internationally and has been certified as a professional coach.
The Amatolo born power lifter also hinted that he got certified as a power fitness coach at the national Academy of strength and power, California USA , stressing that he also attended a power lifting officiating course in Virginia in the U.S.A .
The Sunny Power Academy is to be citied at Abuja as the National Headquarters and Bayelsa state branch as the centre to coordinate other states in the South-South region.
Erepadei Sunday wants the Douye Diri led government to support his initiative to use sport as cartelist for youth development and employment.
Sports enthusiasts in the state are also calling on the sports loving governor to specifically recognize and honour Erepadei Sunday as he had done for other sons and daughters of Bayelsa who have done the state proud in their various fields of endeavours.
